This tree is about 12 feet tall and 8 feet

wide. It is in the Cafeteria hall at

Ivy Creek Elementary. It will depict

the "7 Healthy Habits" as soon as

my signs dry and I get back up there

to paint in the text!

This "i Lead" moto is painted on a wall

adjacent to the Ivy Creek Crest that I

painted last year. They are in similar

colors and tones in order to

compliment each other.

This mural is approximately

5 feet x 5 feet.

Burnette Elementary

Foyer Mural at Gwinnett County's

Burnette Elementary School.

Now in it's second year, this mural holds

the names of Burnette's opening year,

2010-2011, Students, Faculty, and Staff!

The goal was to capture the

Multi-Cultural nature of

Burnette's community.

This mural is roughly 12 feet x 16 feet.

There is one paw print for each grade,

Kindergarten through Fifth, as well

as one for the faculty and staff. In all,

approximately 1000 names are

represented, however many made it

on the wall twice!One certain male faculty member

claimed the little boy to be a

rendition of himself, while the

little red-head below could only

be called Isabelle!

Dyer Elementary Atrium

Bringing the outside in!
Blue skies and clouds fill the atrium
between the 1st and 2nd stories in
Gwinnett County's Dyer Elementary.

Can you spy the DRAGONS?
There are 28 dragon "parts" to find within the clouds!

All who enter this "home of the DRAGONS"
are encouraged to use their imagination...
within this place, and beyond!

And the work begins...

What a change from

the blank, white walls! The following pictures document

the development of the

Woodward Mill Media

Center mural in the

chronological order

of it's development.

Enjoy as you follow

along with the progress!

My largest project yet!

At 14' tall, these walls were a challenge!

I spent 2 days atop

my 6' scaffoldingset at it's

highest setting. The sky was done

with a large roller for the

blue, and a 3" roller and

2" brush to add the white clouds.The ground and tree allowed me

to get back to a lower altitude!

Taking three days, I worked a

combination of green, black, brown, vegas

gold, and white onto the surface with

a 3" roller and 2" brush in combination. This antique barn was constructed

in a day, and is made up of

red, brown, black, white, and vegas gold

paint applied with a 3/4" angled brush. I have added a silo attached to the

right side of the barn, but have some

finishing touches still to add!

After that I'll be adding a

covered bridge, several trees, and

some surprise woodland animals!

Here's a shot of that completed

barn and silo...plus an inviting

shade tree equipped with a swing!

As promised...

a covered bridge over the creek!

These trees are perfect for climbing!

Perhaps they'll make a good

home for a bird or a squirrel!

That's a big change for

the Media Center's blank

walls several weeks ago!

Here's the big picture so far!

All that's left are a

couple of trees, some flowers, and

some various woodland animals!Here come the critters!

The fire alarm had to be

incorporated into the scene somehow...

and I didn't think the Fire Marshall

would want me to paint over it!

We'll see what he says about this!

Before advertising...and after!

I actually had one teacher

who was unfamiliar with

the "See Rock City" slogan!

This fawn still has her spots...

This grey squirrel has found a spot

to relax and enjoy a snack.

Here's the wall most of the kids have been waiting for!

The mascot for Woodward Mill

Elementary is the Bear Cub!

These guys have been sketched on the

wall for weeks! Now they live in the

tree by the main enterance to the

Media Center greeting all who come and go!

Those are azaleas under the

bullitin board and will soon

house a humming bird...

One more tree...

and another fire alarm

to disguise!

There's a deer family

by the pond in

the distance.

Phase I complete!

Wow! What a fun

project! I look forward

to revisiting the scene in

the fall as the woods, and

it's creatures, take over the

remaining half of the media center!

These are several of the images of original watercolor paintings that

I did for The Multi-colored Promise.

It is a children's book retelling the story of God's grace shown

to Noah and his family in the book of Genesis.

These are some of the images from a book that was authored by my cousin, Brenna Boring Phillips, and I had the pleasure of illustrating.

Second Crest at Ivy Creek Elementary

The first Ivy Creek Crest is in the

Leadership Training Room

that is utilized for specific meetings.

However, the administration decided

they wanted their crest featured on

a more prominent wall in the school

for all to enjoy!

So, I rendered the crest a second time!

This one is approximately 5x7 and

is on a wall adjoining the new and the

old portions of the building.

Ivy Creek Elementary Leadership Training Room

This hand painted border surrounds the room, and

draws your eye around the once blank classroom.

These two compass rose images are to the

left of the front white board.

They will serve as a backdrop

for the framed poster titled "Direction".

I projected this quote over the bulletin board

and freehanded it in black, brown, and white tones.

Approximately 5'x8', this is the crest for Ivy Creek Elementary School.

It is painted in their Leadership Training Room which will house numerous

staff training events, and area Administrator meetings.

This rendering of the school's namesake, the original

Woodward Mill is on the main foyer wall. It measures

approximately 14'x10'.

Woodward Mill then....

Woodward Mill as it appeared in an old photograph.

It once stood at the intersection of Interstate 85 and

Hwy 20 near the Mall of Georgia in Gwinnett County

on Ivy Creek.

Woodward Mill site now....

Now located beside the greenway of the Gwinnett

Environmentaland Heritage Center, nothing remains

today of the old mill except the mill pond, a small

spillway, and the old wheel.

Freeman's Mill Elementary Media Center Mural

Gwinnett County's Freeman's Mill Elementary

Media Center mural in memory of their

Clinic worker who passed away during

the 2009-2010 school year.

My first attempt at a mural with people!

This little guy is wearing a

Freeman's Mill Firebird

Mascot on his t-shirt!

This is a quaint Elementary school

just outside of Dacula, Ga.

There are actually some scenes

like this still in the area!

"People may not remember exactly what you did, or what you said,

but they will always remember how you made them feel."

... a fitting tribute.

One last view of the wall...over your left shoulder as you enter the
media center. There will be book shelves built under each of the sets
of windows. Just in front of this area is an adorable seating area
with a colorful rug and child-size sofa and chairs!

My latest artistic endeavor!

Sanctuary Decorations for Saddle Ridge Ranch VBX

at Lawrenceville First Methodist Church!

Everything was hand-made or recycled!

No purchases necessary!

The campfire and logs utilized posts we made

for the children's Spring Musical "Fish Tales" last year!

The covered wagon was made from a "door" back-drop

from an old production turned on it's side.

Swim noodles and bulletin board paper formed

the wagon cover! The wheels were hola hoops

covered with yellow bulletin board paper and

painted to look the part!

Finally, the Blazing Star Stable was made
of a "tiki hut" left over from our VBX two years
ago! (It served as a train depot last year!)

This school moto is approximately 18" tall and 40' long.

It is painted above three built-in display cases

that line the main hall at this elementary school.

CUB cafe'

Welcome to the Ivy Creek Cafeteria!

These murals are approximately 2.5'x4.5'

and are over the double doors at the

enterance and exit to the cafeteria.

This Ivy was added freehand to a wall that had
been previously stenciled with the school's mission statement.
It served to unify the pre-existing lettering on the
wall and add a more personal touch to the crisp text.

This Helen Keller quote is the 4th quote for

Ivy Creek Elementary. The students were

so excited to read each new word as the

mural was painted over several days.

The scroll has a 3-Dimensional feel as it

seems to unroll on the wall.

This mural is approximately 5'x4' and serves

to brighten the 3rd floor stairwell.

The writing on the wall...

No stencils...The text is hand lettered on the wall.

This text wraps throughout a stairwell landing

and is visible from multiple vantage points.

The color chosen is simply a shade darker than the

existing wall color and makes the quote unobtrusive

and very subtle in the neutral environment.

Girl's Bedroom

This girl's room is surrounded by alternating

stripes of yellow, green, pink, and cranberry.

The cranberry stripes even have white polka dots!

These are floor to ceiling, approximately 14' tall!

The window treatment and canopy valance

echo the cheerful color scheme.

Metal pots with flat backs in colors of

yellow, green, and white fill the wall over

window up to the vaulted ceiling. They

are filled with varying clusters of silk flowers.

An inexpensive recycled chandelier takes

on a new look when wrapped with a string

of iridescent pearl beads and adorned with

individually covered lamp shades!

The result is a fairytale lamp for a princess!

These lampshades are adorned with

beads, small flowers, and bows!

Boy's Skateboard Room Design

This room is red, blue, and khaki. It sports

a skateboard theme and utilizes them

throughout the room. There are

exciting things to see from

floor to the 14' ceilings!

Skateboards cut in half are mounted

around the room and appear to be

busting through the walls!

Skateboards in silhouette are painted

high and low around the entire room!

Skateboards are fashioned as floating shelves

and sheet metal adorns the valance

to add to the industrial look.

Skateboard truck parts are mounted

on the wall to serve as hanging hooks!

Boy's Car Room Design

Industrial shelving with labeled "tool" bins hold

books and steel garbage cans hold toys. The bright

orange wall is accent with "grease stained" areas,

and features hubcaps reaching to it's 14' peak!

The room was inspired by the blue and

orange miniature gas pump seen here atop

the dresser. The addition of street signs

and a caution light add to the car theme!

The orange and blue are repeated in the

comforter used on the steel loft bed.

Note the fan which was sprayed

silver and the flames painted on the blades.

The orange is echoed in the "road" across the vaulted

ceiling. It is then accented with more license plates

to match the dresser top! Finally, some out-grown

denim shorts are hung from a simple rod to

form some casual window dressing!

Furniture Design

This dresser used to be in my nursery and was white

with yellow and blue stripes and polka dots. Now it lives

in a big boy room painted with a retro TEXACO logo,

distressed edges, and license plate top.

The top is also edged with rubber tire tread!

First United Methodist Church 5th and 6th grade Classroom Murals

The whimsical, spherical shapes seem to bounce

or float around the 6th grade classroom.

The large wall is anchored by a scripture

verse that can clearly be seen from any

point in the large room.

The 5th grade classroom echos the spherical shapes.

Here, the shapes interact with the hard-edged lines and

actually disappear briefly when they come into contact!

Plaid Horse Mural and Colorful Stripes

This Mural is tucked in the corner beside

the bed. It is approximately 6'x4'.

The Plaid and the Horse Silhouette were taken

from the little girl's comforter.

The stripe pulls all of the colors of the bedding

together and makes the window seat fun and inviting!

The Revolution Personal Training Studio Mural

This mural spans three separate walls.

In total, it is approximately 40 feet in length.

It rises to a height of about 16 feet with the letters being about 3.5 feet tall.

Georgia Tech BUZZ Sculpture

I was one of 24 artists chose by Georgia Institute

of Technology last Fall to paint 5' tall BUZZ

fiberglass sculptures to be displayed

on campus and then auctioned

off as a school fund raiser.

I collaborated with an architect who had actually

pre-purchased this BUZZ to live in his firm's offices. The only change the architect made was to make the

sky blue a little less "Carolina blue"!

My buzz depicts various scenes from the Georgia Tech

campus such as the Tech historical marker,

the stadium, the Ramblin' Wreck, the

Tech Tower, and the Georgia Institute

of Technology sign.

The architectual firm's color scheme and logo were
also incorporated throughout BUZZ and on his base.

The best part of my job is the constant words of encouragement that I hear from the children!

This Ram is in the entry foyer at Gwinnett Counties' new Starling Elementary. It is approximately 10 feet tall and 15 feet wide. It is Grayson green and contains all the names of Starling's strdents, faculty, and staff for this 2009-2010 opening class. There are approximately 1900 first and last names included!
